[Q&E] Pearl(less) Milk Tea

My first post, since unveiling this blog to the public... I've been baking, eating out, and taking pictures galore, but just haven't found the time to post until now! You can blame summer physics class for that.

In fact, what's been getting me through vectors and electric fields has been none other than pearl milk tea - without the pearls.

Essentially, it's sweetened iced tea with milk, and it's the perfect summer beverage when you want something sweet, cold, and refreshing. Oh, and did I say that it's quick and easy, too?

Step 1:
Assemble ingredients.

Step 2:
Add hot water and a tea bag.

Step 3:
Pour a packet of Splenda into the brewed tea, swirl, and let sit for two minutes (to let the tea steep).

A trick that I use is dunking the tea bag up and down in the water, to allow for faster steeping. You can actually see the flavor ooze from the bag, darkly, into the lighter water.

Step 4:

Pour the sweetened hot tea into a glass full of ice.

Step 5:
Add milk, until the mixture reaches your desired consistency.

Step 6:
Allow the milk to settle into the whole glass.

It's actually pretty fun to watch the milk swirl in the liquid. :)

Enjoy!

Here, I added Splenda and fat-free milk, to keep this an almost calorie-free pick-me-up in the middle of the day. But you can vary this however you like.

You can substitute regular sugar instead, and you can use whole milk, half-and-half, creamer powder, or even sweetened condensed milk. The last one will give you a super creamy texture, much like the pearl milk tea that you can buy from the commercial shops.

You can also use different types of tea. My favorite is simple Lipton, but you can try decaf Lipton for some evening iced tea, passion fruit tea for a fruitier taste, or chai for a richer, spicy drink.

That's the beauty of this - it's so simple, but so customizable! It's all up to you.
